What is content indexing in Exchange 2013?

Briefly put Exchange Provides a service called "Microsoft Exchange Search" that builds a catalog of searchable data by indexing all of the users mailboxes, public folders etc. By doing this it can save the user time by having content already cached rather than having to search through each mailbox / email. This service is used by standard Outlook clients, but also Outlook Web Access.
