Performing an authorative restore

In the event that we need to perform an authorative restore we must firstly stop ADDS of the DC we backed up:

sc stop NTDS

Now perform the restoration of the system state, alhough do not restart after the restore operation completes!

Now open an elevated command prompt and enter:

ntdsutil

activate instance ntds

authoritative restore

restore object <dn>

The above process marks a specific object or subset of objects for an authorative restore.

Now simply either reboot or start ADDS again to propogate the changes:

sc start NTDS
