Both public folders and shared mailboxes offer a number of identical features such as the ability to send and recieve emails and have the ability to be managed simmultiausly.
Although there are distinct differences between the two:
- Public folders are automatically added to users inboxes, while shared inboxes have to be designated to specific users.
- Public folders are typically used for collaboration of large projects and allow users to deposit and share files, while shared inboxes are aimed at providing a group of accounts to a common mailbox and calender.
Public folders cannot be accessed via Outlook Web Access, unlike Shared Mailboxes.
